The Zero Breeze Mark 3 is a 48V compressor-driven portable climate unit that cools and heats. Cooling capacity is 5280 BTU at a 500W rated input; heating capacity is 5800 BTU. That's more than double the Mark 2's output from a unit that's only slightly heavier — the Mark 3 weighs 22 lb and measures 22 × 10 × 12 inches. Refrigerant is R290 (propane), which is more efficient and more environmentally friendly than the R134A in the Mark 2. Dual-hose architecture handles intake and exhaust separately, keeping the space pressurized and maximizing effective cooling. An active drain system expels condensate automatically — no manual emptying.
The 48V system is the defining design choice. Running the Mark 3 from a 12V or 24V source requires the Zero Breeze 48V Booster (sold separately), which steps up to the required voltage with 85–90% efficiency. The Mark 3 Battery (1022Wh, 21700 LiPo) charges via wall adapter, solar (12V–60V DC input), or the cigarette lighter cable (trickle). At 500W draw in Rocket mode, a single battery runs roughly 2 hours. In Sleep or Care mode the draw drops substantially and runtime extends to 4–6+ hours. Two batteries in the Plus Extra package covers most full-night cooling scenarios in moderate ambient temperatures.

What's the difference between the Mark 3 and Mark 2?
The Mark 3 outputs more than double the BTUs (5280 vs 2300), heats as well as cools, uses a more efficient R290 refrigerant (vs R134A), and runs on a 48V system (vs 24V). It's heavier (22 vs 16.5 lb) and draws more power (500W vs 240W). The Mark 3 is the right choice if you need to cool a larger or less-insulated space, want heating capability, or want more headroom for hot ambient conditions. The Mark 2 remains a solid option for smaller well-insulated spaces on a tighter power budget.
Can I run the Mark 3 from my 12V or 24V house battery?
Not directly — the Mark 3 requires 48V input. The Zero Breeze 48V Booster (sold separately) converts 12V–36V DC to 48V at 600W output, letting you draw from a standard vehicle or house battery system. The booster runs at 85–90% efficiency, so a 12V source needs to sustain roughly 55A continuous. The Mark 3 Battery charges separately from the unit's power input; the 48V Booster powers the AC system directly.
How long does one Mark 3 Battery last?
At 500W draw (Rocket/full cooling mode), a single 1022Wh battery lasts approximately 2 hours. In Sleep or Care mode the compressor cycles and draw drops substantially — expect 4–6+ hours in moderate ambient conditions. Real-world runtime depends heavily on ambient temperature, insulation, and how far the set temperature is from ambient. Two batteries (Plus Extra) roughly doubles those figures and covers most full-night scenarios in hot conditions.
What's the active drain system?
The Mark 3 actively expels condensate from the cooling process rather than collecting it in a reservoir that needs manual emptying. In humid conditions a portable AC can produce significant condensation; without an active drain you'd need to stop and empty a tray periodically overnight. The active drain handles this automatically.
What does the built-in thermostat do?
It cycles the compressor on and off to maintain a set temperature rather than running continuously. Set it to 70°F and it runs the compressor until the space reaches 70°F, then switches to fan-only until the temperature rises, then kicks back on. This extends battery runtime considerably compared to running the compressor non-stop at full output.
What's in the Basic package vs Plus vs Plus Extra?
All three include the Mark 3 AC unit, hoses, and hardware. Plus adds one Mark 3 Battery (1022Wh); Plus Extra adds two. The Basic package makes sense if you already have a large-capacity power station or a 12V/24V system with the 48V Booster. The Plus and Plus Extra packages are for standalone off-grid use where the Mark 3 Battery is your primary or only power source.
Does the Mark 3 work in shoulder-season cold temperatures?
The ambient operating range is 50°F–104°F (10°C–40°C) for cooling mode. The heating mode extends practical use into cold mornings — the Mark 3 puts out 5800 BTU of heat, enough to warm a small sleeping space from cold. For temperatures below 50°F in cooling mode, performance degrades and Zero Breeze recommends against it; heating mode is intended for those conditions instead.
