Overview
A universal ditch-light mounting bracket that relocates a Midland MicroMobile GMRS antenna to the hood line. Black powder-coated steel, 5/8 in NMO hole, mounts on either side of the vehicle.
Key features
- Black powder-coated steel construction, 7 x 1.5 x 0.2 in
- 5/8 in hole sized for a standard NMO antenna base
- Mounts on the driver or passenger ditch light
- Universal fitment across most ditch light setups (some adaptation may be required)
- Designed for the MXTA24 coax cable and Midland MicroMobile GMRS antennas (sold separately)
Use cases
Overlanders running a Midland MicroMobile GMRS radio use this to put the antenna at the hood line instead of the roof, keeping a roof rack or rooftop tent clear and letting the whip fold over for trail brush. The 5/8 in NMO hole also makes it an easy spot for a second antenna on the opposite ditch light when you run GMRS alongside ham or CB.

Does the bracket include the antenna and coax cable?
No. It is the mounting bracket only. You supply an NMO antenna and the MXTA24 coax cable (sold separately) to complete the install.
Will it fit my vehicle's ditch lights?
It is universal rather than vehicle-specific and works with most ditch light setups on either side. Some installs need minor adaptation, like enlarging or re-spacing a mounting hole, to line up with your particular lights.
Does the antenna need a ground plane on this mount?
A standard quarter-wave GMRS antenna does. Because the bracket is powder-coated steel, scuff the coating where the NMO mount and bolts contact metal so it grounds clean to the body, then re-seal the bare spots. If you would rather skip that, run a no-ground-plane (NGP) antenna.
How does range compare to a roof mount?
A hood-line mount sits lower and closer to sheet metal than a roof whip, so you trade a little height and a slightly tighter pattern. In return the antenna clears your roof rack and folds over for brush. For most trail and convoy use the difference is small.
Will the steel bracket rust?
It ships powder-coated to resist corrosion. The only bare metal is wherever you scuff the coating for grounding, so re-seal those spots with paint or sealant after install and the bracket holds up to weather.
