Overview
The MXAT04VP is a 47.5-inch, 6.6 dB GMRS fiberglass antenna kit with a stainless spring base and 19.5 ft of coax. It's tuned for maximum range on open terrain and pairs with Midland MicroMobile MXT-series radios.
Key features
- 6.6 dB gain heavy-duty fiberglass whip, 47.5 inches tall, for long-range open-terrain comms
- Interchangeable stainless-steel spring base flexes back on impact instead of snapping the whip
- 19.5 ft coax with a PL-259 (UHF-Male) connector, ready to run to the radio
- 1/2-inch hole mount fits a bull bar or any solid surface
- GMRS band, 462–468 MHz; water resistant for outdoor and trail use
Use cases
Buyers run this on the front bull bar of overland rigs to get the whip up high for vehicle-to-vehicle range on desert tracks, open plains, and highway convoys. The flatter 6.6 dB pattern is the pick when sightlines are long and you want every mile of reach.

Is 6.6 dB the right gain for my terrain?
Higher gain means more range, but only in the right country. The 6.6 dB pattern is flat and reaches far across open or rolling ground, desert, plains, and highway. In hills, canyons, or dense woods that flat beam can shoot over rigs sitting lower than you, where a 3 dB whip radiates more vertically and does better. Match the antenna to where you actually drive.
What radios does it work with?
It's built for Midland MicroMobile MXT-series GMRS radios.
What connector is on the coax?
The 19.5 ft coax ends in a PL-259 (UHF-Male) connector.
How does it mount?
The stainless spring base needs a 1/2-inch (0.5 in) hole and bolts to a front bull bar or any solid surface. The spring lets the whip flex back instead of snapping.
A 47.5-inch whip is tall — will it clear my garage?
It is tall, so check your overhead clearance before you park. The spring base lets the whip lay back under an obstacle, and because the base is interchangeable you can run a shorter antenna in town and swap the tall one back on for the trail.
