Overview
The Midland MXTA25 Ghost is a low-profile 3 dB gain GMRS antenna for Midland MicroMobile radios. At 3.5 inches tall it delivers doubled signal output over a unity whip while staying out of the way of garages, branches, and car washes.
Key features
- 3 dB gain — doubles signal output versus a 0 dB unity whip
- 3.5 in (~89 mm) overall height for low-profile, permanent mounting
- Tuned for the GMRS band (462/467 MHz); no field SWR tuning needed
- Weather-sealed for permanent exterior vehicle mounting
- Compatible with Midland MicroMobile GMRS radios (MXT115, MXT275, MXT400, MXT500, MXT575 and similar)
Use cases
Run the Ghost as the permanent antenna on an overland rig where a tall whip would snag branches, or on a daily driver where you want GMRS comms without a visible mast. It keeps convoys talking between MicroMobile-equipped trucks while clearing low overhead obstacles a full-height antenna can't.

Does the MXTA25 come with a mount and cable?
No. The MXTA25 is the antenna whip only. You supply a Midland MicroMobile antenna mount (magnetic, NMO surface, or low-profile lip/groove mount) and the matching coax cable.
Which Midland radios does it work with?
Any Midland MicroMobile GMRS radio that uses the MicroMobile mount system — including the MXT115, MXT275, MXT400, MXT500, and MXT575.
How much range does a 3.5-inch antenna actually get?
The 3 dB gain doubles output over a unity whip, so vehicle-to-vehicle range on the trail is solid. But a 3.5 in antenna is still shorter than a full-height whip, so in flat open terrain a taller mast will reach farther. It is a stealth-versus-range trade-off.
Does it need to be mounted on metal?
Yes, for best performance. Like most GMRS antennas it works best with a metal ground plane under it — a steel roof or body panel. Mounting on plastic or fiberglass with no ground plane will cut its performance.
Does it need SWR tuning?
No. The Ghost is pre-tuned for the GMRS band, so there is no field tuning required. Mount it on a solid ground plane and you are ready to transmit.
Is it sealed for permanent outdoor mounting?
Yes. It is built for permanent exterior vehicle mounting and all-weather use. Snug the mount connection and keep the coax seal intact so weather stays out.
