MAXTRAX MkII Traction Boards (Lime Green, Pair)
MAXTRAX MkII Traction Boards (Lime Green, Pair)
The MAXTRAX MkII is a pair of recovery boards built to get a stuck rig moving in sand, snow, or mud. Each board runs 45 inches long with 88 molded teeth and three longitudinal beams, made from UV-stable, fiber-reinforced nylon that won't crack or stress-whiten with use. The pair weighs about 15 pounds, so they stash with the rest of your kit without eating into payload.
You use them simply: wedge a board against the tread of each driven tire, idle up in low range, and let the teeth pull the boards under the wheels. Six built-in handles make them easy to grab and position, and the shovel-shaped ends scoop away earth packed in front of the tires. The lime-green color is the loud one in the lineup, so the boards stay easy to spot once they sink into snow or sand.
This is the MkII generation, so the keyhole corners accept MAXTRAX mounting pins and linking straps (sold separately) for clean roof-rack carry. They run best with all-terrain or mud-terrain tread.

Overview
The MAXTRAX MkII is a pair of traction boards for self-recovery in sand, snow, and mud. Lay them under the driven tires, idle up slow, and drive out — no winch or second vehicle needed.
Key features
- 88 molded traction teeth grip the tire tread and the terrain under it
- Three longitudinal beams for added strength; tested to wrap a 33-inch tire
- UV-stable, fiber-reinforced nylon that won't crack or stress-whiten
- Six built-in handles plus a shovel-shaped end on each board
- Keyhole corners fit MAXTRAX mounting pins and linking straps (sold separately)
- Hi-vis lime green for fast spotting in snow or sand
Use cases
Most overlanders carry a pair to back out of a soft spot before it turns into a real recovery. The shovel ends clear packed earth in front of the tires, and the bright color makes the boards easy to find once they're half-buried. Run two pairs if you want a board under all four wheels or you're recovering a heavier rig.

Is this one board or a pair?
It's a pair — two boards. That's enough to put traction under both driven wheels on one axle, which handles most soft-ground recoveries.
How many do I need, two or four?
A single pair covers most single-axle recoveries. Step up to two pairs if you want a board under all four tires or you're pulling out a heavier rig.
Will they work with my tires?
They're built for all-terrain and mud-terrain tread. Highway tires with shallow sipes can slip on the teeth and damage them, so they're not recommended.
Can they break or melt?
The nylon is tough, but spinning your wheels generates enough heat to melt the teeth — and that voids the warranty. Idle up slowly in low range and let the tread draw the boards under the tires instead of spinning on them.
How do I mount them to a roof rack?
The MkII has keyhole corners that take MAXTRAX mounting pins and linking straps (sold separately) for clean rack carry. Note that the older MkI pins don't fit the MkII keyholes.
Why lime green?
Color doesn't change how they work — it changes how fast you find them. The bright lime stands out in snow, sand, and mud, which helps when you're digging boards out or flagging your position for help.
