The MaxTrax MkII Recovery Boards are a pair of injection-molded recovery boards in FJ Red. Each board runs 45 inches long, 13 inches wide, and 3.5 inches tall, and weighs 7.5 lbs. The pair weighs about 15 lbs. The molded teeth on top bite into your tire tread while the underside grips sand, mud, or snow, so a stuck rig drives itself out without a winch or a tow.
The boards are made from UV-stabilized reinforced nylon. They flex enough to wrap a 33-inch tire but stay stiff enough to carry the load of a standard 4x4. MaxTrax rates them for vehicles around 10,000 lbs, and owners have run them under expedition trucks past 15,000 lbs in sand. Each board carries six molded handles and a shovel blade on each end, so you can dig out a tire and place the board fast.
This is a colorway only — the FJ Red boards are spec-identical to every other MkII. Use them with all-terrain or mud-terrain tires; highway tread is too smooth to grab the teeth. Mounts (carry bag, wheel harness, rack pins) sold separately.

Overview

Use cases
Sand, mud, snow, and soft shoulders are the daily job. Stage a board at each drive tire to climb out of a bog, or lay all four to bridge a rut. The shovel ends double as a digging tool when a tire is buried past the rim.

How much vehicle can a pair hold?
MaxTrax designs the MkII for standard 4x4s around 10,000 lbs. Owners have used them in sand under expedition trucks past 15,000 lbs. For most overland rigs there is plenty of margin.
Do they work with street or highway tires?
No. The teeth need open all-terrain or mud-terrain tread to bite. Highway tires are too smooth to engage and can shear the teeth, which voids the warranty. Run them with A/T or M/T tires.
Can I drive fast across them?
No. Spinning your wheels on the boards burns the teeth off from friction and voids the warranty. Ease onto them at idle and let the teeth do the work.
Will the red color fade in the sun?
The nylon is UV-stabilized, but long-term direct sun will fade any color and slowly break down the material. Store them in the shade or a carry bag when you are not on the trail.
How do I carry or mount them?
The boards stack flat and bolt to most roof racks and bars with mounting pins, ride in a carry bag, or hang on a rear wheel harness. Mounts are sold separately.
How do I clean them after a recovery?
Pull the board free, give it a shake or tap it on the ground to shed packed mud or sand, and stow it. No tools or rinsing required in the field.
Is FJ Red different from the other colors?
Only the color. Every MkII colorway shares the same nylon, the same teeth, the same dimensions, and the same weight. Pick the color that suits your rig or marks your set in a group.
