The stud on the end drops into a standard L-track (airline track) rail and locks, so the strap anchors exactly where you set it along the track — right at the load instead of routing webbing back to a fixed ring.
The cam buckle is the reason to buy this one. A brass roller inside the buckle takes the friction out of the webbing path, so you pull it snug with less effort and it holds more.
