Use cases

The Outbreak 1550 is built for solo and two-person overlanding where roof space is already spoken for by other gear. It rides on a roof, bed, or trailer rack with bedding stored inside, so camp setup is a matter of minutes. With a sleeping bag matched to the night's low it works across seasons, from hot summer touring down to hard winter cold.

How many people does the 1550 sleep?

Two. It's 61 inches wide and 90.5 inches long inside, so two adults fit, or one adult with gear. The 1550 is the wide double model in the Outbreak line.

Is it waterproof?

Yes. The shell is 400gsm proofed canvas over a 550gsm HF-welded PVC bucket floor, with taped seams and full zip-down storm covers. It's built to hold up through rain and snow. Re-proof the canvas every few seasons of heavy use to keep it shedding water.

Does it get condensation?

It can. Any canvas ground shelter collects condensation when warm bodies meet cold outside air. Crack the twin roof windows or an end vent for cross-flow and it drops off fast. In cold weather, a desiccant pack in a corner helps too.

How big is it packed, and where do I store it?

It rolls down to 62 inches long by 16 inches in diameter and weighs about 49 pounds. That's a big roll, so it rides best on a roof rack, bed rack, or trailer rack rather than loose inside the cab. You can leave your bedding rolled up inside it between trips.

How long does it take to set up?

A few minutes. It's free-standing, so you roll it out, snap in the dome poles, and set the adjustable ridge pole, no ladder and no separate footprint. Stake it down if it's windy.

Can I use it in winter?

Yes, with the right sleeping bag. The canvas breathes and the 70mm foam mattress insulates you from the cold ground, but the mattress alone isn't a full cold-weather sleep system. Pair it with a bag rated for your overnight low.

Do I need to dry it before packing it away?

If it went away wet, set it up or hang it within a day or two to dry. Packing damp canvas for a long stretch invites mildew and shortens the swag's life. Dry it out and it'll last for years.
