HFM Farm Southern Teriyaki Mushroom Jerky
HFM Farm Southern Teriyaki Mushroom Jerky
Southern Teriyaki Mushroom Jerky is button mushrooms in teriyaki with hickory smoke — the meat-free version of HFM Farm's Southern Teriyaki. A 1 oz bag carries 10 g of protein at 60 calories, with zero fat, zero cholesterol, and under 1 g of sugar. It also carries 9.6 mg of iron, 50% of a day's value.
It's the lightest thing on HFM Farm's shelf by calories and the lowest-sodium of the two mushroom flavors at 330 mg. The teriyaki-and-smoke combination works well on mushroom — smoke is a natural fit for a dried fungus, and there's no beef flavor underneath to argue with the sauce. Texture is chewy and slightly spongy, which is what dried button mushroom does; it's a different eat from meat jerky, not an imitation of one.
MSG is on the ingredient list and the panel declares soy and MSG. Sealed, it's shelf-stable — refrigerate once opened and finish within 7 days. Single 1 oz bag. Made in small batches by Joey and Brandi Federico in Jacksonville, Florida.

Is this vegan?
We can't confirm it. It's meat-free, and unlike the Monty's Original mushroom flavor it uses teriyaki rather than Worcestershire, which removes the usual anchovy question — but the label doesn't break out the sauce's sub-ingredients, so we won't put a vegan claim on it without checking. Ask us and we'll get an answer from HFM Farm.
How much protein is in it?
10 g in the 1 oz bag, at 60 calories, with no fat and no cholesterol.
Which mushroom flavor should I pick?
This one is lighter (60 vs 70 calories), lower in sodium (330 vs 350 mg), and sweeter-smoky. Monty's Original mushroom is savory, slightly higher in protein at 11 g, and carries a bit more iron at 60% DV against 50% here.
How does the texture compare to meat jerky?
Chewier and a little spongy. Dried button mushroom doesn't have the fibre structure of muscle meat, so it's a genuinely different eating experience rather than a beef substitute.
Does it contain MSG?
Yes. The panel declares soy and MSG.
Does it need to be refrigerated?
Not sealed — shelf-stable and fine in a hot vehicle. Once open, refrigerate and eat within 7 days. The bag is a single 1 oz serving, so most people finish it in one go.
