The MAXTRAX Rope Dampener is a fill-yourself winch line blanket that adds mass and friction to a line under load. It measures 53 cm by 39 cm (about 21" by 15") empty and weighs 320g before you add weight. The shell is 420 Denier Oxford nylon with polypropylene webbing, so it shrugs off grit and rinses clean.
It does one job and does it well. A winch line or kinetic strap stores a huge amount of energy when it's loaded. If a rope, shackle, or strap lets go mid-pull, that energy has to go somewhere, and a bare line snaps back fast and high. Drape this over the line first, fill the two sleeves with sand or a couple of water bottles, and the added weight drags the line toward the ground instead of toward the cab if it fails.
Use it with synthetic rope or steel cable. It attaches to a rope loop with a MAXTRAX Fuse Shackle and sits best near the middle of the line. Rinse it with fresh water after a muddy recovery, air dry it, and store it dry. It ships empty by design so you fill it with weight you already carry.
