MAXTRAX Kinetic Recovery Rope 5m
MAXTRAX Kinetic Recovery Rope 5m
The MAXTRAX Kinetic Recovery Rope 5m is a 24 mm double-braided nylon rope built to do the pulling a flat snatch strap can't. It stretches up to 30% under load, then snaps back — that stored-and-released energy is what frees a stuck rig, with far less shock through the recovery points. Minimum breaking strength is 12,000 kg (26,455 lbs), and the whole rope weighs just 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs).
The 5 m length is the all-rounder. It's long enough to reach a bogged vehicle in most trail recoveries and short enough to coil and stow fast. Built from Nylon 66 with reinforced eyes at each end, it's the kinetic link between two rated recovery points — not a tow strap, and not a lifting sling. Recover with a slow, steady roll into the stretch rather than a hard yank, and the rope does the work.
Attach it to your rig's rated recovery points (or a MAXTRAX Hitch) with a rated shackle at each end, and lay a recovery dampener over the rope before you pull. Need more reach? Join two ropes with a Core Shackle to bridge a longer gap. Shackles and dampener sold separately.

Overview
A 24 mm double-braided nylon kinetic recovery rope, 5 m long, rated to 12,000 kg (26,455 lbs) minimum breaking strength. It stretches up to 30% to deliver a smoother snatch recovery than a flat strap.
Key features
- Up to 30% elongation for kinetic energy transfer on recovery
- 12,000 kg (26,455 lbs) minimum breaking strength
- 24 mm double-braided Nylon 66 construction with reinforced eyes
- 5 m length — the all-rounder for most trail recoveries
- 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs) — coils down to stow in a recovery bag
- Joins to a second rope with a Core Shackle for added reach
Use cases
Built for snatch recoveries when a vehicle is bogged in sand, mud, or snow. The 5 m length suits most single-vehicle pulls and pairs with a second rope and a Core Shackle when the gap is longer. Use it as the kinetic element between two rated recovery points — never for lifting or flat towing.
- Length: 5 m (16.4 ft)
- Diameter: 24 mm
- Minimum breaking strength: 12,000 kg (26,455 lbs)
- Elongation: up to 30%
- Material: double-braided Nylon 66 and polyester
- Weight: 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs)
- Eyes: reinforced loop at each end
- Use: kinetic vehicle recovery (not for lifting or flat towing)
How is a kinetic rope different from a flat snatch strap?
A kinetic rope stretches up to 30% and rebounds, storing and releasing energy to pull a stuck vehicle smoothly. A flat strap stretches far less, so the pull is more of a hard jerk. The rope spreads the load over time, which is easier on recovery points.
What size vehicle can it recover?
Minimum breaking strength is 12,000 kg (26,455 lbs). MAXTRAX recommends the rope's breaking strength be 2 to 3 times the gross vehicle mass of the lighter of the two vehicles in the recovery. For most trucks, SUVs, and 4WDs that puts the 5 m rope well within range.
Why pick the 5 m length?
It's the all-rounder. Long enough to reach a bogged vehicle in most trail situations, short enough to coil and stow quickly. If you need more reach, join two ropes with a Core Shackle.
Do I need shackles to use it?
Yes. Attach the rope to your rig's rated recovery points (or a MAXTRAX Hitch) with a rated shackle at each end. Shackles are sold separately.
Can I use it for towing or lifting?
No. A kinetic rope is for dynamic recovery only. Don't use it for conventional flat towing or for lifting, and always lay a recovery dampener over the rope and clear bystanders from the recovery path before you pull.
How do I care for it?
Rinse with fresh water after each use, air dry it, and store it in a recovery kit bag out of direct UV. Inspect the rope and eyes for damage before every recovery.
