Gear Aid Cooling Towel
Gear Aid Cooling Towel
The Gear Aid Cooling Towel is a 15 x 36 in microfiber towel that drops below ambient temperature using water alone — no ice, no freezer, no batteries. Wet it with a small amount of water, wring it out, and snap it a few times. The water-activated Cool Mesh fabric pulls heat off your skin through evaporation and stays cool for up to two hours per soak. When it warms back up, re-wet, wring, and snap again. It is fully reusable.
At 2.3 oz the towel folds into the included 7 x 5.5 in mesh bag, so it stows in a pack pocket, a glovebox, or a door pouch and weighs almost nothing in your kit. A silver-ion antimicrobial treatment fights the bacteria that make damp gear stink, so it holds up over a long, sweaty day better than a cotton rag. Color is coyote.
One trade-off worth knowing: this is evaporative cooling, so it works hardest in dry heat. In high humidity the effect is milder and you will re-wet more often. Drape it around your neck on a hot trail, use it as a headwrap under a cap, or hang it over your shoulders after a workout. Comes with the towel and the mesh storage bag.

How does it get cold — do I need ice or a freezer?
Neither. Wet the towel with a small amount of water, wring it out, and snap it through the air a few times. Evaporation pulls heat off the fabric and drops it below the surrounding air temperature for up to two hours.
Is it reusable or one-and-done?
Reusable. When it warms back up, re-wet it, wring it out, and snap it again to re-chill. There are no batteries, gels, or chemicals to run out of.
How does it perform in humid weather?
It is evaporative cooling, so it works hardest in dry heat. In high humidity the cooling is milder and you will need to re-wet it more often to keep it cold.
Will it smell after a sweaty day?
It has a silver-ion antimicrobial treatment that fights the bacteria responsible for odor. Rinse it out and let it air-dry between uses to keep it fresh.
How do I wash it without wrecking the cooling?
Hand or machine wash in cold or warm water — never hot. Skip fabric softener and high-heat drying, both of which clog the microfiber and hurt how it wicks. Air-dry and store it in the mesh bag rather than sealed up wet.
