HFM Farm Monty's Original Mushroom Jerky
HFM Farm Monty's Original Mushroom Jerky
Monty's Original Mushroom Jerky is button mushrooms cured in the same Worcestershire-and-soy recipe HFM Farm puts on their beef. A 1 oz bag carries 11 g of protein at 70 calories, with zero fat and zero cholesterol — and 10.9 mg of iron, which is 60% of a day's value in a single bag.
That iron number is the reason to pay attention. Very little snack food gets close, and it comes from the mushrooms rather than a fortificant. Texture is the other thing worth knowing: dried button mushroom is chewy and a bit spongier than meat jerky, so it eats differently even though the seasoning is identical to the beef. If you like Monty's Original, this tastes like it — it just doesn't chew like it.
MSG is on the ingredient list and the panel declares soy and MSG. Sealed, it's shelf-stable — refrigerate once opened and finish within 7 days. Single 1 oz bag. Made in small batches by Joey and Brandi Federico in Jacksonville, Florida.

Is this vegan?
We can't say that it is. It's meat-free — the base is button mushrooms — but Worcestershire sauce commonly contains anchovy, and the label doesn't break out the sauce's sub-ingredients. If you need a confirmed vegan product, ask us and we'll get an answer from HFM Farm before you buy. The Southern Teriyaki mushroom flavor uses teriyaki instead of Worcestershire.
How much protein is in it?
11 g in the 1 oz bag, at 70 calories, with no fat and no cholesterol.
Is the iron number real?
Yes — 10.9 mg, 60% of a day's value, per the panel. It comes from the mushrooms, not from added iron.
How does it compare to the beef version?
Same seasoning, different texture. Dried button mushroom is chewier and slightly spongier than beef jerky. The flavor is close; the eating experience isn't identical.
Does it contain MSG?
Yes. The panel declares soy and MSG.
Does it need to be refrigerated?
Not sealed — shelf-stable and fine in a hot vehicle. Once open, refrigerate and eat within 7 days. Note the bag is a single 1 oz serving, so most people finish it in one sitting.
