Overview
The Midland MXAT05VP is a complete 3 dB GMRS bullbar antenna kit: a 28.5 in heavy-duty fiberglass whip on a stainless steel spring base, with a 19.5 ft coax and PL-259 connector included. It is tuned for the GMRS band and built for obstructed, hilly terrain.
Key features
- 3 dB gain, tuned for GMRS at 462 to 468 MHz — a taller radiation pattern that fills hills, valleys, and dense forest
- 28.5 in heavy-duty fiberglass whip that flexes off branches and trail debris
- Interchangeable stainless steel spring base that absorbs hits and stays corrosion-resistant
- 19.5 ft coax cable with a removable PL-259 (UHF male) connector — routes from a bullbar through the firewall to the radio
- Mounts through a standard 1/2 in hole, fitting a wide range of bullbar tabs and aftermarket brackets
Use cases
Built for trail and convoy comms where the terrain works against you — hills, canyons, and timber that swallow a flat signal. Mount it on a bullbar or ditch-light tab and pair it with a Midland MicroMobile (MXT) GMRS radio, or any GMRS radio with a UHF (SO-239) jack.

Will this work with my radio, or is it only for Midland?
It is tuned for the GMRS band (462 to 468 MHz) and built for Midland MicroMobile (MXT) radios. The PL-259 (UHF male) connector also fits any GMRS radio with a standard UHF (SO-239) jack.
Does the kit come with a mount?
No. The value pack is the antenna, stainless spring base, and 19.5 ft coax. The bullbar or ditch-light bracket that the 1/2 in stud passes through is sold separately, so match it to your rig.
Why 3 dB instead of a higher-gain antenna?
A 3 dB antenna radiates a taller signal that fills hills, valleys, forest, and city blocks. Higher-gain antennas reach farther on flat, open ground, but they flatten the pattern and can overshoot rigs in the next valley. For obstructed terrain, lower gain stays in contact.
How long is the cable and what connector does it use?
The coax is 19.5 ft with a removable PL-259 (UHF male) connector. That is enough length to route from a bullbar or front bumper, through the firewall, to a radio mounted in the cab.
What size hole do I need to mount it?
A 1/2 in (0.5 in) hole. That standard size fits a wide range of bullbar tabs and aftermarket antenna mounts.
Will it survive branches on the trail?
The 28.5 in whip is flexible fiberglass on a stainless spring base. The spring lets the antenna bend back from branches and trail debris instead of snapping. The base is interchangeable if it ever takes a hard hit. For the cleanest signal, mount the antenna high but keep the base below the roofline.
