Overview

The Midland MXAT05 is the 3 dB gain version of the Highland heavy-duty bullbar GMRS antenna. It is the antenna element by itself, built for Midland MicroMobile radios and tuned for terrain with hills and heavy tree cover.

Does this come with a mount and cable?

No. This is the antenna element only. It mounts to a 1/2 in hole and needs a spring base plus coax to finish the install. It is interchangeable with the heavy-duty spring base from Midland's Highland value pack, so you can run that base and matching coax with it.

Which radios does it work with?

It is built for Midland MicroMobile GMRS radios (the MXT series) and is tuned to the GMRS band at 462-468 MHz.

Should I run 3 dB or 6 dB gain?

Pick by terrain. 3 dB radiates a rounder, more vertical pattern that holds a signal in hills, canyons, and timber where the trail rises and dips. 6 dB flattens the pattern for more reach on open, flat ground but can shoot over a rig sitting down in a valley.

How tall is it, and will it survive the trail?

It stands 28.5 in. The heavy-duty fiberglass whip flexes when it catches a branch and springs back, instead of snapping the way a stiff steel whip can.

What connector does it use?

A UHF-Male (PL-259), the standard connector on Midland MicroMobile coax. Hand-tighten it, then snug a quarter turn; if the joint is exposed, weather-seal it to keep moisture out.
