MAXTRAX Fuse Soft Shackle
MAXTRAX Fuse Soft Shackle
The MAXTRAX Fuse Soft Shackle is a 120g UHMWPE-and-polyester soft shackle built to one job: be the part that breaks. It carries a precise Minimum Breaking Strength of 15,432 lb (7000 kg), set deliberately lower than the rest of the MAXTRAX Recovery System so it gives out first. When a recovery pulls past safe load, the Fuse lets go instead of your kinetic rope, your strap, or a bolted-on recovery point.
That is the whole point of a fuse. A predictable failure load means a predictable failure spot, so you can set your rope dampener where it matters and keep stored energy under control. At 21.5 in (550mm) long and 120g, it threads through a recovery point with a simple loop-and-knot and adds almost nothing to your kit weight.
The Fuse is rated only as part of the MAXTRAX Recovery System and has not been tested with third-party gear. Run it with MAXTRAX components, inspect it before each pull, and rinse and dry it after — soft shackles lose strength when they stay saturated.

Overview
The MAXTRAX Fuse Soft Shackle is the intentional weak link in the MAXTRAX Recovery System. Its 15,432 lb (7000 kg) MBS is set below the system's other components so it fails first, protecting your rope and recovery points.
Key features
- Precise 15,432 lb (7000 kg) Minimum Breaking Strength — the system's sacrificial link
- 120g of UHMWPE and polyester; 21.5 in (550mm) long
- Loop-and-knot attachment, no metal hardware to launch on failure
- Floats and won't mar paint or alloy like a steel shackle
- Designed and rated as part of the MAXTRAX Recovery System
Use cases
Run the Fuse as the planned failure point in kinetic-rope and winch recoveries. When the load spikes past safe limits, the Fuse breaks rather than your strap or recovery point — turning a possible equipment loss into a quick, cheap swap.
- Minimum Breaking Strength: 15,432 lb (7000 kg)

- Weight: 120g (bare shackle)
- Material: Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene + polyester
- Attachment: Loop-and-knot

How is the Fuse different from the MAXTRAX Core Shackle?
The Core Shackle is a general-purpose soft shackle. The Fuse is built to be the weakest link — it carries a lower, precise 15,432 lb MBS so it breaks before your rope or recovery points do.
Can I use the Fuse with non-MAXTRAX recovery gear?
MAXTRAX rates the Fuse only as part of the MAXTRAX Recovery System. The system hasn't been tested with third-party gear, so pair it with MAXTRAX components for a known result.
Does it lose strength when it gets wet?
Yes. Soft shackles lose strength when saturated. Rinse it with fresh water, air-dry it, and store it dry so it's ready at full rating next time.
How does the Fuse attach?
It uses a loop-and-knot. Slide the loop over the knot, feed it through the recovery point, then seat the knot at 90° to the loop so it locks under load.
What does the fuse design actually protect?
It gives the recovery a predictable failure load and spot. That lets you place your rope dampener with intent and keep stored energy from going somewhere it shouldn't.
Should I inspect it before every recovery?
Yes. Check for cuts, fraying, and heat glazing before each pull, and retire it after a failure or any visible damage. It's a wear part by design.
