Does this cable charge the Mark 3 AC unit, or just the battery?

The battery only. The Mark 3 AC unit runs on 48V and cannot be powered directly from a 12V source — that's what the 48V Booster is for. This cable connects to the Mark 3 Battery (the external battery pack) and charges it while the AC unit is not running. To run the AC unit from the Mark 3 Battery, connect the battery to the unit as normal once it's charged.

How long does it take to charge the Mark 3 Battery from empty?

Approximately 8–10 hours at 10A from a 12V source (120W effective charging rate into the 1022Wh battery). This is a trickle charge — the AC wall adapter charges the battery to 80% in about 2 hours and is the faster option when shore power is available. The cigarette lighter cable is best used to top off during drive days, not as a primary recharge method the night before a hot trip.

Will it work with my Mark 2 battery?

No. The connector and charging profile are specific to the Mark 3 Battery. The Mark 2 battery uses a different system and is not compatible with this cable.

Does the vehicle need to be running to use this cable?

The vehicle should be running (engine on or reliable shore power to the 12V system) to prevent drawing down your starter battery. Charging at 10A for 8+ hours from a parked vehicle's starter battery will drain it. With the engine running, the alternator supplies the load. If you want to charge from a house or auxiliary battery, this cable works fine as long as the aux battery can sustain 10A without voltage dropping below 12V.

Is the cable long enough to reach across the cab?

The cable is 1.2 meters (approximately 4 feet). That's enough to reach from a center console or dash 12V port to a battery on the passenger floor or rear seat. For longer runs — truck bed to cab, or trailer applications — you'll need a 12V extension or a different charging approach.

Can I leave it plugged in overnight at camp?

If you have a reliable 12V source at camp (generator, shore power connection, or a large aux battery), yes. The Mark 3 Battery's built-in charge controller manages the input and stops accepting charge when full. Just confirm your 12V source can sustain 10A for the duration without depleting.
