The Armadillo Horizon 3 is a hardshell rooftop tent that sleeps 3 adults and folds down into a 14-gauge welded aluminum shell with rounded corners. It opens to the left side on a gas-strut hinge, so you lift the lid, the struts do the work, and the tent stands up tall instead of leaving you stooped over. Open dimensions run 75.25" wide by 89" long with 50.5" of headroom — enough room to sit up, change clothes, and spread out three sleeping spots.

Inside is a self-inflating mattress with dual fill ports, mesh-backed windows on every side, a rear vent, and a skylight, so you can move air through the tent and watch the stars at the same time. The ECO13B fabric uses Light Suppression Technology to block heat and morning light, which keeps the tent darker and cooler than a thin nylon tent. It is rated for 4 seasons and comes with a snow pole that tensions the roof into a V to shed rain and snow.

The Horizon 3 carries its own power, too. A built-in module gives you a 12V socket, USB-A, and USB-C wired to an Anderson-style plug, plus a USB LED light bar that runs white, amber, or a blend of both. A duct port with a locking drawstring lets you pipe in a portable A/C unit or diesel heater, and dual T-slot roof rails hold up to 50 lbs of gear on top of the shell. Closed, it measures 55.5" W x 75.25" L x 13.25" H and weighs 246 lbs with the rails and ladder.

Overview

A 4-season aluminum hardshell rooftop tent that sleeps 3 adults, opens to the left side on a gas-strut hinge, and packs onboard 12V/USB power plus a heater/AC duct port.

Key features

  • 14-gauge fully welded aluminum shell with rounded corners to cut wind noise and drag.
  • Left-side, gas-strut-assisted high-opening hinge for fast setup and full standing height inside.
  • Self-inflating mattress with dual fill ports and ECO13B fabric with Light Suppression Technology.
  • Power module: 12V socket, USB-A, and USB-C on an Anderson-style plug, plus a multi-mode USB LED light bar.
  • Duct port (about 4.5–5") with a locking drawstring for a portable A/C or diesel heater, and dual T-slot roof rails rated to 50 lbs.

Use cases

Owners run the Horizon 3 as a 3-person basecamp on extended overland trips, leaving it mounted on a roof rack or bed rack between weekends. The welded shell and 4-season fabric hold up through sustained rain and high wind, and the heater/AC port keeps it comfortable well outside of summer.
