70L Overland Gear Box Gray [CO]
70L Overland Gear Box Gray [CO]
The 70L Overland Gear Box is a 70-liter hard-sided storage box with a tough LDPE shell built to ride on the outside of your rig. It holds 21.75in x 12in x 12in of gear inside a 27.25in x 17.5in x 13.5in footprint and weighs about 21 lbs empty. That's 20 liters more than the 50L in the same family, so a full recovery or camp-kitchen kit fits in one box instead of two. A gasket seal around the lid keeps rain, splash, and trail dust out, so the straps, shackles, and dirty gear you'd never want loose in the cab stay clean and dry.
The lid runs on pre-installed gas struts that hold it open while you load, and the latches lock so you can run a small padlock through them. Molded handles on the sides make it a two-hand carry, and tie-down holes under the lid let you strap it to a bed rack, roof rack, or trailer deck. When the trip's over, pull the drain plug in the bottom and hose the whole box out.
The lid comes with rivnuts already set, so you can bolt on a MOLLE panel (sold separately) and lash extra gear up top. The boxes also stack, so you can run the 70L under a smaller box and strap the stack down as one block. It comes in gray.

Overview
A 70-liter hard storage box with an LDPE shell, a waterproof and dustproof gasket seal, and a lid that locks and pops open on gas struts. Built to mount outside the vehicle and swallow a full recovery or camp kit in one container.
Key features
- LDPE shell with a waterproof and dustproof gasket seal
- Pre-installed gas struts hold the lid open hands-free
- Lockable latches accept a small padlock
- Drain plug for hosing out mud, sand, and spills
- Tie-down holes under the lid and lid rivnuts for a MOLLE panel (sold separately)
Use cases
Most people run it as a recovery or tool box, keeping straps, shackles, gloves, and other grubby gear in one rinse-able place — and at 70 liters it holds a fuller kit than the 50L. It also works as a camp-kitchen or consumables box strapped to a bed rack or trailer, staying dust- and rain-free on washboard roads. Because it stacks, you can pair it with another box and lock the stack down together.

How much fits inside, and what are the real internal dimensions?
It holds 70 liters. The inside space is 21.75in L x 12in W x 12in H, and the outside footprint is 27.25in L x 17.5in W x 13.5in H.
How is the 70L different from the 50L — which should I get?
The 70L adds 20 liters and about 4 lbs over the 50L. It's a longer, wider box (27.25in x 17.5in versus 24.5in x 15in) but sits about half an inch lower. The shell, seal, gas struts, lockable latches, drain plug, and lid rivnuts are the same on both. Pick the 70L when you want one box to swallow a full recovery or camp-kitchen kit; pick the 50L when footprint matters more than volume.
Is it actually waterproof, or just water-resistant?
It has a waterproof and dustproof gasket seal that keeps rain, splash, and trail dust out. There's no published submersion rating, so treat it as a rain-and-dust-sealed box rather than a dunk-it-in-a-creek dry box.
Will the lid stay open while I dig through it?
Yes. Pre-installed gas struts hold the lid up so it won't drop on your hands while you load or unload.
How do I mount it to my rig or trailer?
Use the tie-down holes under the lid to strap it to a bed rack, roof rack, or trailer deck with ratchet or cam straps. The box is stackable, so you can run two and strap the stack down as one unit. It's the heavier box in the family at 21 lbs, so loaded up high it raises your center of gravity more than the 50L — a bed rack or trailer deck keeps the weight low.
What are the rivnuts in the lid for, and can I lock and clean it?
The lid has rivnuts pre-mounted so you can bolt on a MOLLE panel (sold separately) and lash extra gear, straps, or tools to the top. The latches are lockable for a small padlock, and a drain plug in the bottom lets you hose out mud, sand, or spills. After a dusty trip, pop the drain, rinse it, and leave the lid open on the struts to air-dry before you close it.
