Bugout™ 130 Portable Solar Charger
Bugout™ 130 Portable Solar Charger
The Bugout 130™ Portable Solar Generator is built to withstand the harshest conditions rain or shine, whether you are a clumsy over-lander or depend on mission-critical power for military operations.
Whether you're powering your elk camp in Alaska, a member of a special missions unit, or just want cold beer on a few days you get off work and are able to get in the woods, you can rely on us for the highest in quality and performance no matter where you are.
This portable solar kit generates enough power for most non-permanent vehicle-based and small camper applications, putting up to 7 amps per hour into the battery. When paired with our Solar Charge Controller, it will rapidly charge any 12-Volt battery.
Unlike flexible solar systems, the Bugout 130™ Portable Solar Kit was designed to provide massive increases in power in a lightweight field-expedient kit. The solar performance is unrivaled, generating power even in rain and snow.
Proudly made by us in Boise, Idaho the Bugout 130™ is all-weather big power when you need to charge much more than phones, tablets, and the GPS. The kit includes a 20-foot extension cable with SB50 and SAE connectors to plug into your camper solar plug, Dometic PLB40 Battery Pack, and other common portable battery systems. We also have multiple adapter options for common battery packs.

Overview
The Overland Solar Bugout 130 is a ~130W folding solar charger that trades glass for a 1050D Cordura / X-Pac waterproof shell. SunPower Maxeon Gen III cells (23.7% efficiency) drive up to 7A/hr into a 12V battery, and the whole kit folds to 22 x 7.5 x 3.5 inches at 7.3 pounds.
Key features
- SunPower Maxeon Gen III monocrystalline cells, 23.7% rated efficiency
- 22V open-circuit output; up to 7A/hr into a 12V battery in good sun
- 1050D Cordura / X-Pac waterproof fabric with double-stitched lashing points and grommets
- Mini Anderson output with an included 20-foot cable to SB50 Anderson plus an SB50-to-SAE adapter
- Optional MPPT 10A charge controller bundle and optional Dual USB-C accessory
- 7.3 lb; folds to 22 x 7.5 x 3.5 inches, opens to 22 x 68 inches
Use cases
Built for vehicle-based and small-camper power: lash it to a roof rack to trickle the house battery on multi-day trips, recharge a portable battery box like the Dometic PLB40 at camp, or run field-expedient power at a remote base camp where a glass panel would be too fragile to haul.

Do I need the charge controller, or can I plug it straight into a battery?
The panel outputs 22V open-circuit, so it needs a charge controller before it touches a 12V battery. Add the MPPT 10A bundle and you can charge any 12V battery directly. You can skip it only if you already run a controller, such as a power station or a camper solar input with a built-in regulator.
Will it charge a portable power station or battery box directly?
Yes. The 20-foot cable ends in an SB50 Anderson plug plus an SB50-to-SAE adapter, which plugs into common solar inputs like the Dometic PLB40 and most camper SAE solar ports. Stations with their own MPPT input handle the 22V directly; otherwise run it through the controller bundle.
How much power does it make in cloudy or wet weather?
Up to 7A/hr into a 12V battery in good sun. The SunPower Maxeon Gen III cells still produce in overcast, rain, and snow, just at a reduced rate. Angle the panel at the sun and keep the face clean for the best output.
How tough is the fabric, and will it survive riding loose in the rig?
The shell is 1050D Cordura / X-Pac waterproof fabric with double-stitched lashing points and grommets. It folds to 22 x 7.5 x 3.5 inches and is built to ride loose in a truck bed or lash to a roof rack instead of cracking like a glass panel.
Can I charge phones and tablets without a battery?
Not with the base kit, which is a battery charger rather than a USB pack. Add the Dual USB-C accessory variant to charge devices straight off the panel with no battery in the loop.
Is this a generator or a power station?
No. It is a solar panel that charges a battery. It does not store power on its own, so pair it with a 12V battery, a battery box, or a power station.
